Bangkok Locations
Chinatown
Bangkok has a small Chinatown located along Yaowat Road. Hotels in this area are 2-3 star properties catering to mostly to local business travelers or visitors looking for budget accommodation off the beaten track. It's a colourful and interesting option.
Din Daeng Don Muang
With Bangkok MRT (subway) running through the heart of Din Daeng, this area is one of the fastest growing areas and quickly becoming the new commercial centre of Bangkok. North of Din Daeng is Don Muang, Bangkok's domestic airport and commercial area.
Khao San Road
and its surrounds are good for meeting with other backpackers going out every night till late, and really good value guesthouses. There is no BTS or subway, but you do have the Express River Boat
Pratunam
North of Siam Square Pratunam is the area around Ratchadamri and Petchari intersection. Best known as the centre for garments and handicrafts hotels in Pratunam are popular with wholesalers, exporters and price conscious tourists.
Rattanakosin
Bangkok's oldest and most historical area Rattanakosin Island is home to Grand Palace, Wat Po, Wat Phra Kaew, Royal Palace. This is where you will find Khaosan Rd., famous for budget hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops.
Rama I Road
Which has the Siam Paragon, Siam Square, and the Siam Discovery Center shopping malls. Siam Square is good for Shopping, and some more shopping meeting Thais, particularly students, and a variety of Thai food around Siam Square is excellent. It can be easy accessed by the BTS sky train.
Siam Square area is defined as the area running along Rama Road I and adjoining Ploenchit Road to the north & Rama IV Road to the south, the most exclusive shopping area in Bangkok.
Silom / Sathon
Bangkok's central business district with many international companies and foreign embassies. Hotels are generally smaller independent 'boutique' style properties with international standard facilities and personalised service.
The Wireless Road include the Stock Exchange of Thailand and many foreign embassies, also many shopping malls, and other businesses. Sukhumvit Road
is the largest neighbourhood in Bangkok and hence has the most number and variety of hotels. Known for great shopping, fine restaurants both Thai and international, and the exciting nightlife, Sukhumvit is a good choice for first time visitors to Bangkok.
